Delray Beach, Florida Historic Homes

202 Swinton Ave Delray Beach, Florida
321 Swinton Ave. Delray Beach, Fl.
226 Swinton Ave. Delray Beach Florida

Love the Historic Buildings in Delray Beach, Florida with their southern charm!
Painting en plein air is so nice if you can manage to beat the heat which starts  getting pretty hot around 10am!
The one in the middle looks like
Mediterranean Revival, currently in handyman condition, but probably about 500K 2015 prices.  HA!
Though I didn't trespass very far into the property, had to see the porte cochére (that car-port thingy) up close.  Just love Spanish Architecture!  :)
The bottom one is UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! Way more interesting than what I could show.  People were living here or I might've been tempted to walk around the back.  I wonder if they mind artists sitting in their from yard staring into their property. At least there were no yappy dogs to rat me out.
The very top one is actually converted into a law office. Yard was all torn up, they were putting in brick pavers, but the main thing was just to record as much information on the house that I could. OMG, the carpentry detail!
I finished them up in my studio and I noticed on my 2nd & 3rd visits to paint, alot of my detail was wacky or missing... Oh Well,
I need to move on..... there are so many really cool places in Delray Beach Florida.
Come on down and spend some cash!

Elmo Cake How To (or not to!) and the Painting!

Filling in a special request for an Elmo painting and a Birthday Cake!  :)
Bake your cake! Mine was triple chocolate fudge with white icing.
Just one 13 x 9" layer to keep it simple.
After I frosted it, I realized I forgot to buy food color and couldn't find my
decorating tips (too late to go back to the store) so make sure you have everything first!  ;)
Luckily I had the red, orange & black colors.
Blue or green or yellow even background would've
been nice so Elmo's white eyes didn't blend in with the white cake. That's why the last minute smear of
marbled orange around the outsides.
I tried to outlined the whole Elmo in black, but
that was proving to be a disaster if black ever touches anything else it will be there for life, so
forget that risk!
I'm showing it anyway 'cause things don't always turn out like the way cool image in my mind!
So if you are still interested in know how I did this, here ya go:

  • frosted the sides and top
  • sketched an Elmo shape on sheet of paper (use a coloring book if u can't draw), then cut him out and placed him where I wanted on the cake.
  • used a Toothpick to draw outline in the frosting around the Elmo shape.

  • Filled in with RED frosting
  • Used 2 orange slices candies stuck together for the nose (you can cut the candies to shape oval).
  • Used a JUMBO marshmallow for the eyes. (cut a slice off the top and bottom about a 1/2" thick slice)
  • filled a baggie (clip corner) with black icing to draw on the mouth, Pupils in Eyes and the lettering.
This would be really super simple if using the right tools!
Ah well so I am at least happy with how the painting turned out, since this is not my usual subject matter!
This Elmo is a 20x16" on canvas.

Sculpting for a change of pace ;)

WOW! January is just blowing by since I've been busy getting the studio back in order after
 my Everglades Museum Exhibition.
That was a lot of re-arranging in this cramped space, the studio, not the museum!  LOL!
Anyway, I've been back to sculpting, see the pics! :)
These are a continuation of an old series that I have decided to make more of.
But I'll need to break again....a studio disaster as far as I'm concerned  ;(
There's a leak above me, so more dust and moving stuff around for construction repairs!  UGH!
Click HERE if you'd like to see more of my Ke BEADS!

Click here to see my EBAY AUCTIONS set to
go up Wednesday Jan. 27th
I will be back to painting outdoors again with
my Plein Air group, so should have some
South Florida Art ready!
Art Synergy 2015 (Art Palm Beach) at the Palm Beach Convention Center starts Jan 22nd, I'll be working somewhere there, can't wait to see what these fabulous artists are doing now! If you are in the area, come and plan to go to Antique Row on Dixie Hwy. Don't forget to try out all the Fine Dining in the area while you are out and about :)
Have a nice week end in Palm Beach County!
