Back when I first started painting cats, each one had their own lineage
Hal is the original ancestor in this line and the main characteristic is the tufts of face hair, reminds me of Calmity Sam.

Rudolf Pencil Pets for kid's class - How To Christmas Tutorial

Quick and Easy Christmas presents for your kid's class!
Basically this is all just made up on the fly while I was in JoAnn's Fabrics,
so you may have to experiment around little! :)

Supplies:

Craft Fur Fabric for Rudolf's head.

I bought a 1/2 yd. (60"width) which was enough to make these all the way through college, LOL! ( I made 42 and used less than two strips that were approx 2.5" wide).

Felt for snout / nose - matches fur. I cut a 1/2 inch rectangle and folded it into a tent for top of nose bridge.
Red PomPom for nose tip. Dab of glue and place on top of felt. (see pictures).
Wiggle eyes - Attach with a dot of glue.
Pipe Cleaners - One for each reindeer, folded in half and each side bent into 'points' (you have to play around with this). This will be tucked into top of fur rolled /folded around the pencil with a dab of glue.
Craft Glue is tackier than Elmer's and seems to hold better.
Duh...Pencils!

Cut a 2 - 2/12 inch strip of fabric inserting scissors under the hairs so that you cut only the backing and not the fur on top.
This will let the longer hairs grow over the edge of cut strip instead of being wacked into a blunt cut!
(see how fur is hanging below the fabric in pic?)
Google this (how to cut fur fabric) for clearer instructions, LOL!

Divide this strip into , oh maybe 3 inches (see picture with cutting lines drawn on strip).

Add glue to fur piece and wrap pencil. (see pic). IMPORTANT: Make sure the fur is growing DOWN before you glue onto the pencil. ;) LOL! or you will have a different kind of animal , LOL!

Put a drop of glue onto red pompom and place on top of felt tent and position on front of face. ( I had to pre-glue and dry the nose snouts to keep them in a tent shape)

Add Eyes with a drop of glue.

Fold PipeCleaner Antlers and tuck into top.

Feel free to comment adding any improvements or suggestions / ideas for others or even just to clarify what I have tried to explain! Do in any order that works best for you, LOL!

Up for auction is an Artist Trade Card from my private stash, LOL!
This one was created in 2005, they are all so different and my designs change that I like to keep some originals for my own collection, however I end up saving most of them, LOL!

ACEO or artist's trade cards were once only traded between artists, but I say share the love of collecting these original works of art with everyone!
I keep mine in a notebook with archival acid free pages that baseball card collectors use.
This makes a great coffee table book and is fun to flip through!
An inexpensive way to collect original art!

Trapper's Swamp House Texture Painting

Trapper John's Swamp House
started a while ago, but just completed.
I once canoed past a dilapidated house on the Loxahatchee River and
this swamp house series was the result of it.
I didn't bring my (expensive) camera just in case and
it was fortunate because we ended up rolling the canoe, but
not on purpose, (on my part anyway. The bottom is gooey fish poop, GROSS!).
Anyway, I can't even remember what the place looked like, so
this is purely from memory or imagination, but
the feeling of living on the river as I percieved it is there :)
This is an 8x10 and one of the few where texture is pronounced.
On canvas panel, fits into an open back frame and
is on auction HERE!

and let me tell you it is FABULOUS! He used one of my focal beads for the drop and six strands of linked beads, (3 on each side) and he used a hand crafted toggle for the closure...so easy to wear!

The wire wrapping alone took hours of work!

Haven't been painting for awhile.....got the big C scare, but had the most

brilliant surgeon, not to mention his staff and 8 rest filled days overlooking the inter-coastal
right across from the Biltmore Hotel in Palm Beach and watching the yachts go up & down all day!
Beautiful lit up at night! YAY! But now I am back and my painting has taken a somewhat different tack,
so hope you'll leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Sea Angel Art Doll

Thought about a tutorial after I had already started, but the plain, white, stuffed Angel dolls and the whole back story can be seen/read on the URNAngel website. http://urnangel.com/

Gift of one ‘YOU ARE AN ANGEL’ Doll to an individual in the Las Vegas community, generally through an agency serving foster children, homeless families, hospital patients, etc. If you are interested in starting a gifting program in your community, email your request to community@urnangel.com.

#1. Painted the face and wings with white gesso to seal the fabric. Let dry and paint on the face & wing color, (I chose gold).

#2. Needed to make her a fishy tail so she could swim fast if need be! I marked a dot up from the center bottom of her dress and used button/carpet thread to cinch in the sides of her fin and knotted it and then wrapped the thread under the the center bottom around to the other side and through all thicknesses on the original dot/mark I made. Pull this tight to cinch up and separate her tail fins a bit. Knot 3xs for security! ;)

#3. Next I drew on her arms hugging her pet seahorse, then painted the whole thing, front and back. BTW, there are two dolls here, one on front and the verso so when she is hanging by her ribbon loop, she will never be swimming backwards! Green Eyes on 1 side, Brown on the other ;)

#4. I tacked on boa feathers for hair, added a GLOW Angel tag for her and sparkled up her scales with some glitter here and there and there, and there, and there....U can never have too much Bling!

BP tell us that they provide the training online. It is a 4 hour certificate. So it does not get you the level of safety you need.
We would like to raise the funds to pay for anyone who wants the training but can not afford to pay the fee.
Went to the claims center in Naples. They will not pay for the class unless you are a BP employee or a ... See Moregovernment agency wanting to train staff. Most of the officials I spoke to do not trust BP and do not want to take a chance. The fee is actually $150 less than the lowest 40 hour class we can find. The online classes do not insure total understanding of the Hazmat protection wear and who knows who is actually taking the test. Too many variables. We recommend the FEMA classes online they are not as safety related and are more to do with procedure. We want people to be safe in the clean up...period.

The Movement Started In Florida

In Florida on Saturday, February 13, 2010, a statewide gathering against offshore oil drilling occurred. Thousands of Floridians representing 60 towns and cities and over 90 beaches joined hands to protest the efforts by the Florida Legislator and the US Congress to lift the ban on oil drilling in the near and off shores of Florida. Florida’s Hands Across The Sand event was the largest gathering in the history of Florida united against oil drilling. Thousands joined hands from Jacksonville to Miami Beach and Key West to Pensacola Beach, each against oil drilling in Florida’s waters.

Mission Statement

To organize a national movement to oppose offshore oil drilling and champion clean energy and renewables. These gatherings will bring thousands of American citizens to our beaches and cities and will draw metaphorical and actual lines in the sand; human lines in the sand against the threat oil drilling poses to America’s coastal economies and marine environment.

The Effects of Oil on Wildlife

• Birds and other marine life can suffer from the effects of an oil spill. Even small spills can severely affect marine wildlife.

• Oil spills have different impacts on wildlife and the surrounding environment, depending on the type of oil, location of the spill, species of wildlife in the area, and timing of breeding cycles and migrations.

• Oil coats animals’ bodies with a thick layer that may become stickier over time and adhere even more.

• Some fish are attracted to oil because it looks like floating food. Sea birds, attracted to schools of fish, may dive through oil slicks to get to them.

• Oil that sticks to fur or feathers, can cause:

• Hypothermia. Birds also lose body weight as their metabolism tries to combat low body temperature.

• Marine mammals lose weight when they cannot feed.

• Poisoning of young through the mother. For example, a dolphin calf can absorb oil through its mothers milk.

• Birds become easy prey, as they are less able to fly away. They may become dehydrated and starve.

• Birds sink or drown because oiled feathers weigh more, and sticky feathers cannot trap enough air to keep birds buoyant.

• Damage to the insides of animals’ and birds’ bodies, for example causing ulcers or bleeding in their stomachs if they ingest the oil.

• Poisoning of wildlife higher up the food chain if they eat large amounts of other organisms that have taken oil into their tissues.

• Damage to the lungs of marine mammals and turtles, congestion, pneumonia, emphysema and even death by breathing in droplets of oil, fumes or gas

• Damage to marine mammals’ or turtles’ eyes, which can cause ulcers, conjunctivitis and blindness.

• Irritation or ulceration of skin, mouth or nasal cavities.

• Suppression of a marine mammal’s immune system, sometimes causing secondary bacterial or fungal infections.

I got the chance to view my artwork on a few other computer screens and noticed the colors were not right... and so in an attempt to give would be collectors a 'sample' of my work I am offering ACEO (artist's trading cards) on Ebay with a starting bid of .99¢
For decades, these cards were once only traded between artists, but now are being sold to collectors as well by many artists.
They are the size of baseball cards and a very collectible and affordable way to collect original art.

You Can Make a Difference

Most polls show that we ARE making a difference because more people are becoming educated about influenza and flu vaccines, especially H1N1 swine flu. Recent national polls have revealed that 30 to 50% in many communities are not planning to get a swine flu shot. Those who haven't made up their minds yet have lots of questions. These numbers just don't add up

How many people have to be vaccinated with the new swine flu vaccine to save ONE life from a swine flu fatality?

If the vaccine were 100% effective (that is, they prevented every death that would have otherwise occurred), they could be credited with saving 1 life out of 2000, right?
Because that's the normal death rate for this particular virus (these figures are widely quoted by AP, Reuters and the White House, by the way).

But no vaccine is 100% effective. As I mentioned above, seasonal flu vaccines might -- at a stretch -- be credited with preventing 1% of the deaths that might otherwise have occurred.
With this 1% effectiveness factor calculated back into the formula for swine flu (assuming the same 1% effectiveness factor), it turns out that you would have to vaccinate 200,000 people to save ONE life from swine flu.

That puts a whole new perspective on the vaccine push, doesn't it?

200,000 vaccines costs taxpayers roughly $5,000,000, and it subjects 200,000 people to the potential side effects of these vaccines which have never been subjected to any long-term testing whatsoever.

Is it worth spending $5 million and exposing 200,000 people to potentially dangerous vaccine side effects in order to prevent ONE death from swine flu?

If each vaccine shot generates $25 in revenue for drug companies, and the U.S. government orders the production of 160 million vaccines,
how much money is Big Pharma making off the pandemic?
That answer is roughly $4 billion in net revenues.

But even that doesn't count all the repeat business from the future victims who suffer neurological side effects
from the vaccines and have to be institutionalized and subjected to high-dollar medical care for years on end.

In all, a mass vaccination program could
end up generating over ten billion dollars in revenues for drug companies.

Coral Sea Reef Fish

I've been working on my Reef Fish series in a smaller format.
This one is a little different as it has a thick shine and was very hard to photograph without catching glare or reflections!
It is 6x6 inch on stretched canvas with 3 moorish idols swimming near an outcropping of black coral with real sea shells embedded. 5 day listing beginning Sunday 19th.
I will try to have a new painting listed on eBay once a week (crossing fingers) for $10 and sending out a blog post on Sat. night for a heads up to my subscribers.

I want to paint the cows so bad...they look so serene lounging around under the humongus swooping oak branches. Well, these are faraway cows....I'm working on close up cows, it's a work in progress 4 a while now.

Dear Friends,

Whenever a Great Bipartisan Consensus is announced, and a compliant media assures everyone that the wondrous actions of our wise leaders are being taken for our own good, you can know with absolute certainty that disaster is about to strike.

The events of the past week are no exception.

The bailout package that is about to be rammed down Congress' throat is not just economically foolish. It is downright sinister. It makes a mockery of our Constitution, which our leaders should never again bother pretending is still in effect. It promises the American people a never-ending nightmare of ever-greater debt liabilities they will have to shoulder. Two weeks ago, financial analyst Jim Rogers said the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac made America more communist than China! "This is welfare for the rich," he said. "This is socialism for the rich. It's bailing out the financiers, the banks, the Wall Streeters."

That describes the current bailout package to a T. And we're being told it's unavoidable.

The claim that the market caused all this is so staggeringly foolish that only politicians and the media could pretend to believe it. But that has become the conventional wisdom, with the desired result that those responsible for the credit bubble and its predictable consequences - predictable, that is, to those who understand sound, Austrian economics - are being let off the hook. The Federal Reserve System is actually positioning itself as the savior, rather than the culprit, in this mess!

An October surprise is American political jargon describing a news event with the potential to influence the outcome of an election, particularly one for the presidency. It is so called because Election Day in the U.S. is the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, and events shortly before the election have greater potential to swing votes. Most of the time, the term is used to label actions of a sitting president, especially with regard to military or foreign policy matters, but it can also apply to news stories unfavorable to the incumbent administration. "Sweet Dreams" Alice in Wonderland Painting demo

Every so often I add to my "ALICE IN WONDERLAND" series and here's the latest.
It's a mixed media collage meaning anything that's lying around within reaching distance gets glued on! :)
Not wanting to copy the the images created by the Disney artists, my Alice has a unique look. Keeping with the original classic, I left her hair brunette, but updated her coif! Also changed the Disney Artist's version of the blue dress white pinafore. I am still working on this...I change her ensemble each time I paint her! Mostly, the collection is ART TRADE CARDS, (ATC / ACEO) and 4x6" post card art, (OSWOA™). This painting is my 2nd one on canvas that I've finished. The first one was the Cheshire cat.
It's on ebay 3/11/08 and will be back in the website gallery if it doesn't find a home.
Oh yea, click on the blue title above tho see a large photo of this. Sorry the image is so large, but it was the only way to show the images under the transparent layers. You really have to look close! Foxtail Palm Tropical Painting

Just had to capture this while it had fruit!
Aren't they pretty? Bright, burnt orange about golf ball size!
Botanical name is Woodietia Bifurcata and I want to say it's indigenous to Madagascar, but I really can't remember.
Anyway, it's an 18x24" and for sale, $225.

The Icon International Foundation auction opens for bidding on January 16, 2008 at 8:00 Eastern Standard Time Time.

Our goal is to raise $100,000. through this auction to further our planned long term efforts to save the futures of as many of the 1000,000. homeless children and 500,000. foster care children in our country. We need everyone's support!

We have a standard format at cMarket that we must follow. Also, we came to realize that we needed to add an additional sum to the artist's quoted price in order to cover our expense to be incurred upon the sale of each respective item. This has definitely been a learning experience for us.

Press Releases have gone out to all major and most secondary news papers regarding the Jan. 16th auction. With each auction our buyer response will increase, as our activity in this will become more and more widely known.

Besides our efforts to acquire corporate and foundation donations and grants, we intend our auctions to be a permanent on-going part of our fund raising programs.

Don't Fence Me In

There was supposed to be some farm animals in this painting, but all I could find to sketch were these two goats on the OUTside of the fence. My goat sketches were lacking so I left them out.
Well, maybe it is finished as it is. Maybe not.
For now it is Florida landscape with cabbage palms.
I know, such creative titles!

Black Bird Crow Tropical Abstract Painting

"SEVEN CROWS", (lucky number?),
that's what's in this painting although there were dozens in the tree!
This painting was done in multiple glazing layers so that one color shines through the next. Painting this way is very time consuming, so I don't get to use this technique as much as I'd like. This is one of the few that I have left like this. (It may be the only one.....)
In the future.....oops! Can't tell.....not that I am superstitious, but just in case!

Anyway, this painting is an original HUGE 24'x 30" x1.5"thick
I have it scheduled to begin auction on eBAy right after Christmas. the 26th in fact.
